The 2017 vintage will be remembered as a cooler one producing wines with punchy acids. In the case of this Lagrein, we made the decision to harvest earlier than normally would have been desired when a large rain event appeared on the radar.
The resulting wine when in its infancy was increadibly bright, with a touch of green character. This was balanced in the winery by blending in some 2019 Lagrein made from the same vineyard.
The fruit from the 2017 ‘Sfera’ Lagrein was harvested from our Block 9. Machine harvested at night to retain freshness, before haulage to the winery.
Lagrein is a variety we love to play with in the winery, and is often used for brightening up tired wines. In the vineyard the variety has proven time and time again how well it handles the dry Australian conditions.
Cherries, blackberries and dark morello plums leap from the glass with this limited release Lagrein. Best served with Veal Scallopini!
